Frequently Asked Questions
About Tutoring in East Cobb & Marietta
What makes East Cobb Tutoring Center different from other tutoring companies?
We’re not a franchise and we don’t use generic programs. Every tutor here is an experienced educator who understands what’s actually happening in local schools. Many of our tutors are certified classroom teachers with years of experience in Cobb and Fulton schools. A smaller number of our tutors are retired teachers or graduate students at KSU and Georgia Tech where they work as teaching assistants in their fields.
We’ve been working with East Cobb, Sandy Springs, Roswell and Marietta families since 2012 and have helped thousands of students improve their grades, confidence, and test performance. Our sessions are fully customized—no binders full of preprinted worksheets or generic curriculum that pulls your child further away from what they need to be successful at school.
What subjects do you offer tutoring in?
We cover all core academic subjects:
- Math (elementary through high school, including Dual Enrollment classes and AP)
- Science (Biology, Chemistry, Physical Science & Physics)
- Reading and writing
- Study skills and organization
- SAT and ACT test prep
If your child has a class, test, or specific challenge, we can help.
What areas do you serve?
We primarily work with families in East Cobb and Marietta, but also serve students from Roswell, Sandy Springs, and across Cobb County who are looking for high-quality, in-person tutoring. We can make any session virtual, so students from across the country have worked with East Cobb Tutoring Center. This has been especially helpful for students that have worked with us through high school and want to continue tutoring support during college.
What grade levels do you work with?
We work with students from elementary school through high school, including honors and AP-level classes. The youngest students we help are in kindergarten (rising kindergarten in the summertime) and the oldest students we work with are in college.
Do you offer one-on-one tutoring?
Yes. All sessions are one-on-one unless you request a buddy session. That allows us to move at your child’s pace, focus on exactly what they need, and adjust in real time. You can also rest assured that the entire session is spent focused on your child.
Do you help with last-minute tests or quizzes?
Absolutely. A lot of our students come in before a big test or quiz for targeted review. We focus only on what matters for that specific test—no wasted time. You can schedule appointments through our website up to 12 hours before the session. If you need something on even shorter notice, just call our office!
How often should my child come to tutoring?
Most students come once or twice per week.
If a student is significantly behind or preparing for a major test like the SAT, we may recommend more frequent sessions for a period of time.
How quickly will we see results?
It depends on the student and the situation, but many families see improvement within a few weeks—especially when sessions are consistent. We focus not just on grades, but also on building skills and confidence so results last.
Is your tutoring aligned with Cobb County or Fulton County schools?
Yes. Many of our tutors are experienced classroom teachers who are familiar with local curriculum, expectations, and pacing. We teach what students are actually learning in school. We ask that students bring their school laptops so we can look at the teacher portal (CTLS, Canvas, Blackboard, etc.) as well as all their school materials, even when there is no homework.
Do you communicate with parents?
Yes. We keep parents informed about what we’re working on, progress being made, and any concerns we see. No guesswork.
SAT & ACT Prep FAQs
Do you offer SAT or ACT prep in East Cobb?
Yes. We offer in-person SAT and ACT prep for students in East Cobb, Marietta, and surrounding areas. Our program focuses on strategy, timing, and targeted skill-building—not just taking practice tests. We partner with Test Innovators to bring a premium test prep experience to our students that includes 12 adaptive practice tests and thousands of extra problems.
How is your SAT prep different from big test prep companies?
We offer three different programs for your child. Small group prep in a traditional class setting, Express sessions for our busiest students, and individual tutoring. We are proud to partner with Test Innovators to offer digital practice tests and thousands of additional practice problems. Your child’s tutor will use the digital materials and your child’s results to quickly identify weaknesses and focus on the areas that will actually move their score.
No busywork—just targeted preparation.
When should my child start SAT or ACT prep?
Most students start 8-10 weeks before their test date for private tutoring and come in once or twice a week for a 55-minute session. Our traditional prep classes last 5 weeks and leads right up to the test day and includes 20 hours of class time plus practice tests completed at home.
If your student has a very short timeline, we recommend our SAT or ACT Express classes which are just 90 minutes and held the weekend right before the SAT.
How much can SAT and ACT tutoring improve a score?
Score improvement varies, but students who are consistent and follow our recommendations typically see meaningful gains. The biggest improvements happen when we combine content review with test-taking strategy. Like anything, the more work you put in the better the results – students who are looking for large score improvements must also practice independently. Don’t worry, we will assign homework!
Do you offer SAT or ACT crash courses or last-minute prep?
Yes. We regularly help students prepare in the weeks (or even days) leading up to the SAT and ACT by focusing on high-impact strategies and the most tested concepts. This can be accomplished in a one on one setting or in our Express classes, which are held the week before the big test day.
Do you help with both math and reading/writing on the SAT and ACT?
Yes. We cover all sections of the ACT and SAT, including math, reading, and writing. We adjust the focus based on the student’s strengths and weaknesses. Our traditional class includes both math and reading; the Express class options allow you to pick one or both; individual tutoring can be completely customized.
How often should students meet for SAT or ACT prep?
Most students meet 1–2 times per week leading up to the test.
Closer to the test date, some students increase frequency for more intensive review.
Do you assign homework or practice between sessions?
Yes—but it’s purposeful. We assign targeted practice to reinforce what was covered and to build familiarity with SAT question types.
How do we get started?
Reach out to us and we’ll talk through your child’s needs, goals, and schedule. From there, we match them with the right tutor and get started.
