Leslie is a native of Detroit, Michigan, where she grew up in a large, close-knit family under the guidance of a strong mother figure. From a young age, Leslie discovered her love for helping others, especially when it came to reading and writing. She would often play “schoolteacher” with the younger kids in her neighborhood, setting up a small school on her porch to teach them how to read. This early passion for education set the stage for her future career.
Leslie pursued her academic goals with determination, earning a Master’s degree in Education and Reading Literacy (MAT) with a specialty in Special Education from Marygrove College in Detroit, Michigan. Her commitment to learning didn’t stop there—she also obtained a second Master’s degree in Business Administration-Marketing from Walsh College of Business Administration and Accountancy in Troy, Michigan.
Leslie’s educational journey began in 1990 when she started volunteering in classrooms. Her dedication and love for teaching quickly led to more formal roles, including long-term substitute teacher, paraprofessional, and interventionist for reading and math. These experiences solidified her belief in the power of education and her desire to make a difference in the lives of her students.
After relocating to Georgia, Leslie took on the role of a Special Education teacher for K-2 AU-Bridge, where she taught all subjects. She is particularly passionate about teaching students to read, using a variety of methods tailored to each child’s unique needs. Leslie firmly believes that with the right support, every student can unlock their potential and discover the joy of reading. Beyond that, she encourages her students to tap into their creative skills and imagination, knowing that everyone has the potential to write their own story.
Leslie’s journey in education reflects her lifelong commitment to helping others learn and grow, and she continues to inspire her students to reach for their dreams.
